Synopsis

In the year 1927, against the backdrop of a tumultuous Soviet Union, Mordechai Dubin embarked on a daring mission. Armed with relentless determination, he navigated the treacherous corridors of power, employing a unique blend of persuasion and pressure. His objective? None other than securing the release of the esteemed sixth Lubavitcher Rebbe, Yitzhak Shneersohn, from the clutches of Soviet imprisonment. What awaited him was an odyssey filled with intrigue, as he not only secured the Rebbe's freedom but also orchestrated the exodus of the Rebbe's entire family and their priceless library, all the way to the sanctuary of Latvia.

Dubin's gallantry did not waver in the face of adversity. In 1939, he embarked on a second daring rescue mission, this time amidst the shadow of Nazi Germany. As the unofficial foreign secretary of the Lubavitch realm, he became a beacon of hope for countless souls. His legacy was one of proactive contributions, a lifeline for those imperiled by the ruthless grasp of Communist and Nazi regimes, even as the specter of death loomed large. He commanded respect not through demand but through his unwavering commitment to the cause.

In the annals of diplomacy, few Latvian politicians could claim the privilege of a private audience with President Herbert Hoover at the hallowed halls of the White House during the years 1929-1930. Mordechai Dubin, however, belonged to that elite circle, a testament to his influence and significance on the world stage.

Yet, amid the dazzling tapestry of his life, tragedy lurked in the shadows. The Riga ghetto bore witness to the heart-wrenching loss of his wife and daughter-in-law, while his son suffered the horrors of a Nazi concentration camp. For Dubin, the wheels of fate turned relentlessly, leading him to a somber end within the confines of Soviet captivity. In a cruel twist of history, the Soviet authorities strived to obliterate his name from memory, ensuring that his legacy would be forever shrouded in obscurity.
